Students and costume designer excel in Theatre and Speech
Prestigious student internships, a rave review for costume designer Sydney Roberts, and an upcoming children’s performance are the highlights from the Department of Theatre and Speech:
Ashanti Brown was a junior English major when she decided to add at least three more years of work to earn a second degree in theatre. She was recently awarded a prestigious internship at the Actors' Theatre of Louisville, one of America's premier regional theatres. She beat out 700 other applicants, many of whom had graduate degrees, for the position.

- UTC Theatre's costume designer, Sydney Roberts, recently received a rave review for her designs for the Georgia Shakespeare Festival's production of the "Comedy of Errors." Read the review.
- Recent theatre department graduate Laura Coates was invited to participate in Atlanta's Horizon Theatre's Young Playwrights' Festival.
- Sophomore theatre major, Megan Smith is doing a summer theatre internship at the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival.
Coming soon:A story theatre piece for children composed of stories from Appalachian, Cherokee, and African-American traditions. Free-admission performances at the Ward Theatre in the UTC Fine Arts Center will be scheduled after the July 4th holiday. The performance will be supported with a UC Foundation grant.
