SoCon tournament play begins March 2

UTC and the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee will host the 2005 Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships. Tickets are available at The McKenzie Arena box office.

The tournaments, which award the winner of each event an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, will be held March 2-5 at The McKenzie Arena and Maclellan Gym on the UTC campus.

All-session ticket books cost $60, and there is a limit of four books per purchase. An all-session book includes every game for both the men's and women's tournaments. Individual session tickets will go on sale during the week of the tournament for $12 per session.

Business hours for The McKenzie Arena ticket office are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interested fans can purchase tickets via the telephone by calling (423)266-6627.

Tickets to certain sections of The McKenzie Arena's upper level can by purchased on line by visiting the Arena's web site.

One of the exciting women’s basketball players you can see at the SoCon tournament is Chattanooga’s Katasha Brown, who was named the TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week.

Brown, a junior from Tazewell, TN, made 7-of-14 shots for the night with a .500 average as the Lady Mocs defeated Appalachian State, 70-48. Brown connected on 4-of-6 from behind the arc, pulled down five boards and picked up two steals in the game.

Brown has now won this award twice this season, and five times in two years.
