UTC Dining Executive Chef cooks and catches
Executive Chef Jeff Stephens, also known as “Chef Jeff,” has been a driving force for Aramark Campus Services at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for more than a year. While students and faculty may be familiar with his accomplishments behind the grill, they may not be as conscious of his accolades behind the reel.
This professional chef is also making waves in the sporting world as a skilled bass fisherman. Over the last 11 years Stephens has competed in hundreds of tournaments at both the local and national level. He has won 12 of 15 of the tournaments in which he has competed over the last year alone.
Stephens is planning to compete in the BassMaster Open Series and will also be appearing on the television fishing show, Schooled by Denny Brauer, September 2 & 10 on ESPN 2. His professional duality with fishing gives the phrase “Catch ‘em and Cook ‘em” a whole new meaning.
Stephens has been fishing his entire life, growing up on Cheniere’ Lake in West Monroe, Louisiana, the Creole culinary capital of the world.“My father made his own nets and trot lines to feed the family,” said Stephens. Growing up in a hard working family, Jeff knows the importance of giving back to the community. He proudly donates a portion of his winnings from bass tournaments to local charities.Stephens hopes to develop a sports related cooking show that would showcase both his catching and cooking skills, as well as his love for the Tennessee Valley.
