New UTC Chancellor Keynotes Chamber Annual Meeting
In his first major community address since becoming chancellor of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Dr. Roger Brown will serve as guest speaker at the 2005 Annual Meeting of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce.
The luncheon meeting will be held on September 19 at the Convention Center. It will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reservations may be made online or by calling 423-763-4366.
The title of Brown’s address is "Building Bridges to Excellence: Education and Business in Chattanooga."
"Those of us who have had the opportunity to meet and talk with Chancellor Brown have been enormously impressed by his intellect, his knowledge of Chattanooga and his commitment to strengthening the partnerships between UTC and the community," said Chamber President and CEO Tom Edd Wilson.
Wilson said he is especially pleased by Brown’s promise to reinforce the alliances between the campus and the business community and to forge new partnerships between UTC and local business. "Working together in mutually beneficial endeavors, the university and Chattanooga businesses can help continue the progress our community has achieved over the past 20 years," Wilson said.
During an appearance on the Chamber’s monthly public affairs program, "Taking Care of Business," Brown said, "It’s important for UTC to be an engaged citizen of the community. The community’s problems are the university’s problems. The solutions are ours to share together."A native of Bristol, TN, Brown holds a Ph.D. degree in political science from Johns Hopkins University and a master’s degree in political science from the University of Tennessee. Before joining UTC he served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Previously, he served as professor, department head and senior associate provost at UNC at Charlotte.
