Video conference teaches about elk restoration

"Wapiti, Wapiti, Here Come the Elk!" a live, interactive video-conference focused on the recent restoration of elk to Eastern Tennessee will be viewed statewide by students in grades 5-8 through a down link on the UTC campus. The satellite conference can be viewed in the Raccoon Mountain Room of the University Center on Wednesday, March 7 from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

The program will include video footage of the elk release in Campbell County in December, and it will also provide information about the biology of elk, what happened to elk in Tennessee, why elk are being re-introduced in Tennessee, and the future of the newly-released elk.

This information is aimed at a younger audience, however, it can be relevant for Education, Biology and Environmental majors or anyone interested in nature and preservation of the wilderness.

The program will be recorded so that schools without access to satellite facilities will be able to request video-taped copies of the program.
