UTC Lecture to Focus on Jewish History

Jonathan Goldstein, research associate at Harvard Universityís John K. Fairbank Center for East Asian Research and Professor of East Asian History at the State University of West Georgia, will present a slide-lecture entitled "The Jews of India, China, and Japan: Comparative Perspectives" at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Thursday evening, October 26, at 7 p.m. in Grote Hall room 129.

Goldstein will survey patterns of Jewish migration, acculturation, assimilation, and economic activity in East Asian communities from the Middle Ages to the modern age, presenting research results contained in his edited 1999 three-volume work: The Jews of China: Historical and Comparative Perspectives; the Jews of China: Sourcebook and Research Guide; and China and Israel, 1948-1998: A Fifty Year Retrospective.
