UTC Welcomes New Faculty
Dr. David Cundiff has joined the UTC faculty as the head Exercise Science, Health and Leisure Studies department. Dr. Cundiff comes to us from Campbellsville University in Kentucky, where he served as Chair of the Department of Health Promotion, Human Performance and Leisure Studies for ten years. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in Physical Education and Adult Fitness, with a minor in Educational Measurement and Physiology.
Dr. Dana Wertenberger, director, School of Nursing, comes to UTC from a clinical practice in gerontology in Iowa. Her varied and accomplished academic background includes bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing from the University of Texas, and a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California. Her most recent academic appointment was at Clarke College in Iowa, where she was chair of the Department of Nursing and Health. Before that she served as professor and director of the University Hospital School of Nursing at the University of Alberta. She has also held appointments at Azusa Pacific University, California State University at Los Angeles, and elsewhere.
Robert M. Desmond is the new Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Desmond was a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan-Flint, where he also served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. Before his service at Michigan-Flint, Desmond held appointments at West Virginia University, the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Oakland University of Michigan. At West Virginia, he was dean of engineering and mineral resources, a responsibility that included work with 90 full-time faculty members and 2,000 students. At RIT, he served as associate provost and as president of the RIT Research Corporation. Desmond earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Worchester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. His M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in that field are from the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Helen Eigenberg is the new director for the School of Social & Community Services. She received her Ph.D. in criminal justice from Sam Houston State University in 1989. From 1988-93 she was a faculty member in the department of sociology and criminal justice at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia; and from 1993-95 she was chair of that department. From 1995-97 she was a professor at Eastern Kentucky University followed by one year of private consulting work. Her main areas of expertise are violence against women, including domestic violence; sexual assault, sexual harassment, and institutional corrections.
Dr. Anthony Lease, associate professor and head of education graduate studies, comes to UTC with 36 years experience in public schools. Most recently he served as superintendent of Fauquier County Schools in Warrenton, Virgina. From 1985-89 he was the superintendent of Baldwinsville Central Schools in Baldwinsville, New York; and from 1979-85 he was superintendent of Marcellus Central Schools in Marcellus, New York. Lease received his E.D. degree from Syracuse University, a master's degree from Keene College, and a bachelor's degree from Montclair University.
