Teaching & Learning
The mission of the the Teaching & Learning group is to provide a variety of opportunities to support faculty to improve teaching & learning.
These opportunities may range from faculty development and instructional design for quality on ground, hybrid, online and distance programming and, ultimately improving teaching and learning through faculty development and support.
The mission of the Grayson H. Walker Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is to support UTC's strategic planning and academic initiatives by providing information, learning sessions, and consultation in the areas of teaching, learning and technology integration to facilitate excellence in university instruction.
UTC's QEP, ThinkAchieve: Creating Connections, focuses on advancing student critical thinking skills through the classroom and experiential learning. Students who become competent in the areas of creative and critical thinking will achieve higher levels of success. Their success at becoming critical thinkers will fuel their achievements in academics, in their careers, and in their lives. We also know that critical thinking cannot be an isolated outcome and must be addressed within an integrated community of learning that emphasizes growth across multiple disciplines and experiences.
The mission of the Center for Online & Distance Learning provide support for on ground, online and distance learning needs including the administration, training and support for lecture capture, videoconferencing, Blackboard and UTC Online. In addition to enhancing faculty and student technical skills associated with teaching and learning at a distance, the area assists faculty in the support of pedagogical best practices for all learning.
The Center works closely with departments and faculty to assist with the design, development, delivery and promotion of hybrid and online programs as well as the general use of UTC Online for course and student support and communication. The area collaborates with the Walker Center for Teaching and Learning, Information Technology and many more university areas to ensure that faculty and students have the resources necessary for great learning experiences using instructional technology.
