Before coming to Chattanooga, Tom received his Ph. D. from the University of Cincinnati in 2002 where he worked with David J. Maume as a project manager for the Kunz Center for the Study of Work and Family.  He received his Master's degree in sociology from the University of Mississippi. Tom primarily teaches statistics, research methods, social inequality, and introduction to sociology.  His research interests pertain to race and gender inequalities in the areas of work, organizations, homelessness and health.  Tom is also doing qualitative research on race and work relations in the Mississippi Delta catfish farming industry.
