Program Checkpoints

Both NCATE, our accrediting agency, and the state of TN require that students are evaluated on a regular basis. These evaluations are to be more comprehensive than individual course evaluations; they are also are to include all other aspects of the program, including field experience, mentor input and professional fitness.  The “Program Checkpoints” are as follows:

Semester Assessments Additional Activities
End of first semester Checkpoint #1
-Mentor/IHE evaluation of required Standard A field experiences
-IHE/LEA partner evaluation of application of course material: case studies, course projects, final exam
-IHE/LEA partner evaluation of ability to analyze school data as described in EDAS 501 syllabus and previous document item # 2-b-i-iii (M.Ed. students; CSL students do this in semester 2)
-Professional Code of Conduct assessment
-students not meeting expectations placed on program probation for semester 2
Semester 1
-program orientation
-establishment of mentor/protégé groups
-monthly seminars
End of 2nd semester [Certificate student only] IHE/LEA partner evaluation of ability to analyze school data as described in EDAS 501 syllabus and previous document item # 2-b-i-iii (CSL students only: M.Ed. students do this is semester 1) Checkpoint 1A: for students placed on program probation semester 1. Students must meet acceptable standards for CP#1 at this point or will be dismissed from the program. Semester 2
-monthly seminars
-mentor meetings
End of 3rd semester Checkpoint #2: 
-Practicum project approved
-Mentor/IHE evaluation of required Standard E, C, F field experiences
Mentor/IHE evaluation of additional field experiences
-IHE/LEA partner evaluation of application of course material: case studies, course projects, final exams
-Professional Code of Conduct assessment
-students not meeting expectations placed on program probation for semester 4
-Seminars
-Mentor meetings
-Candidacy form completed
End of 4th semester   Checkpoint 2A: for students placed on program probation semester 3. Students must meet acceptable standards for CP#2 at this point or will be dismissed from the program. NOTE: Students in the CSL program are eligible for program completion at this point.  The exit evaluation described below will be conducted when all field experience and course requirements have been met. -Monthly seminars
End of 5th semester Exit Evaluation; Summative: 
- Mentor/IHE evaluation of all additional field experiences
-IHE/LEA partner evaluation of application of course material: case studies, course projects, final exams
-As part of course projects, acceptable scores on practice questions for SLLA 
-Interview skills and resume development completed as part of course projects
-Professional Code of Conduct assessment
-Final field experience project submitted and acceptable
-Portfolio submitted and acceptable
-SLLA passed
-Professional Development plan acceptable/ongoing mentor identified
-If any of the above are not met, the student will be given an “IP” in EDAS 582 and continued until successful performance has been demonstrated.
-ILL-B to be applied for upon program completion
-Identification of ongoing network opportunities
-Identification of ongoing mentor
-Identification of follow-up date for PD plan
