Inclusion of dance in SCEA programs has been a challenge since there is no dance program at UT Chattanooga. In 1996, a collaboration with personnel from the SouthEast Center for Dance Education in Columbia, SC, resulted in the writing of a discipline-based dance framework and the addition of dance to the summer Multi-Arts Institute. Diane McGhee and Pamela Sofras created the first weeklong summer Dance Institute in 2000. Brenda McCutchen directed the 2001 Dance Institute.
