Radiation Safety
POLICY:
Per University of Tennessee System -Wide Policies on Safety and Health, the UTC Department of Safety and Risk Management will establish and maintain procedures for the proper and safe handling, use, transportation, storage and disposal of ionizing radioactive materials. A Radiation Officer appointed by Campus Administration will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations governing these materials.
PROCEDURES:
The UTC Department of Safety and Risk Management is responsible for:
- Assuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations governing ionizing radioactive materials maintained on campus.
- Review of records maintained by Radiation Safety Officer on an annual basis.
The UTC Radiation Safety Officer is responsible for:
- Assuring compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations governing ionizing radioactive materials maintained on campus.
- Maintenance of all required records for equipment for inspections, monitoring, licensing, etc.
- Radiation monitoring in compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Immediate notification of the campus Safety Officer in the event of an exposure, regulatory agency visit or citation.
- Coordination of any radioactive waste disposal where necessary in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.
- All annual reporting and fees applicable to ionizing radioactive materials maintained on campus.
