First Aid and Medical Treatment

 

Policy

The UT Chattanooga campus will develop and communicate a plan for first aid or emergency medical treatment of employees, students and visitors who may become ill or injured on the premises of the University.

Procedure

In case of injury or emergency illness, the following procedures will be followed

Students

During University business hours:
Students should contact Student Health Services at (423) 425-4453, or in an emergency situation, contact Campus Law Enforcement at (423) 425-4357 (HELP) or 911.

After University business hours:
Contact Campus Law Enforcement at (423) 425-4357 (HELP) or 911. Upon arrival, Campus Police will assess seriousness and call for emergency medical transportation or, when injury or illness is minor in nature, transport the student to an area hospital.

Visitors

Visitors to the University who are suffering from an accidental injury or emergency illness should contact, or have contacted on their behalf, Campus Law Enforcement. Upon arrival, Campus Police will assess seriousness and call for emergency medical transportation or, when injuries or illness is minor in nature, either transport the visitor to an area hospital and/or contact a requested third party.

Employees

Employee job related injuries - Employees injured on the job are covered by the State of Tennessee Workers Compensation Policy. These injuries should be reported immediately to supervisors following procedures detailed in UTC Policies on Safety and Health Subject 6. Upon injury, the employee's supervisors should notify Campus Law Enforcement at (423) 425-4357 (HELP) or 911. Campus Police will assess seriousness and call for emergency medical transportation or, when injuries are minor in nature, either transport the visitor to an area hospital and/or contact a requested third party.

Employee emergency illness - Employees who are suffering from an emergency illness should contact, or have contacted on their behalf, Campus Law Enforcement. Upon arrival, Campus Police will assess the seriousness of the emergency illness and call for emergency medical transportation or, when injuries are minor in nature, either transport the visitor to an area hospital and/or contact a requested third party.
