The ACT Residual (ACTR) is a three-hour exam for students that are seeking entrance into the Teacher Education Program or admission into UTC.
Also, the Math Department uses the math score from the ACT or the ACTR in order to determine the correct math course placement for a student. If the ACTR is used for math placement, the student must take the entire ACTR, not just the math section.
The ACTR test score is only valid for UTC and cannot be transferred to another university. If you are planning to use your ACTR score in order to apply for scholarships, please check with the Admissions Office (423-425-4662) to be sure the residual exam satisfies scholarship requirements.
On test day, a total of three and one-half hours will be required for exam administration. The exam fee is $50, payable by check, cash, or money order to UTC (non-refundable).
Test Dates: The ACTR is administered by appointment only but is normally offered on Monday afternoons at 1:00pm in Hooper Hall, room 205. During summer months, the ACTR is offered more frequently (not just on Mondays) in order to accommodate those that need to take the test for math placement. Once we have received the registration form and $50 registration fee, we will call to arrange a testing time.
