The fall 2017 application cycle is now closed.

The fall 2018 cycle will open in July 2017.

WE HAVE MADE CHANGES IN THE WAY GRE SCORES ARE CONSIDERED IN THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS FOR FALL 2018.

PLEASE REVIEW THE UPDATED APPLICATION INFORMATION CAREFULLY!

Applicant Data

Our program enrolls 36 students each fall. Applicants are very competitive and have excelled in their undergraduate and prerequisite coursework. GRE scores along with science prerequisite GPA and cumulative undergraduate GPA are the primary factors used to determine admission; our program does not interview candidates. There is no minimum verbal and quantitative combined GRE score required for applicants, but we require a minimum 3.0 analytical writing score for regular decision applicants and a 3.5 for early decision applicants. We require a minimum of a 3.2 for both GPAs for regular decision and a 3.4 for both GPAs for early decision. The following table provides data for entering classes over the last three years. This reflects students who matriculated into the program, including those who were initially wait-listed but received an offer at a later date due to an opening in the program. Students who declined an offer or chose to attend another program after accepting an offer from UTC are not included.

The Department of Physical Therapy is committed to The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s strategic plan goal to embrace diversity and inclusion as a path to excellence and societal change. Therefore, the program welcomes and encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds including those who identify as underrepresented minorities. The program does not give preference to instate students or UTC graduates.

How To Apply

After reviewing this page and the related sections of our web page, please contact the program coordinator at rebecca-littleton@utc.edu If you have questions regarding admissions.

Our program uses the Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (PTCAS) for all entry-level applicants.  "P-T-KAS" is a web-based centralized application service that will allow you to use one set of materials to apply to multiple PT programs. Before you begin your application, please print and read both the Application Instructions (below) and the Prerequisite Checklist (see the "Prerequisites" tab). Should you have questions about this information after you have reviewed it, please contact us.  In addition to the FAQs about PTCAS webpage, you may also find the FAQ section of our website useful.

Early Decision for Fall 2018

Early decision (ED) is a binding option for PTCAS applicants who designate our program an ED candidate.  Applicants may apply to only one ED program in PTCAS. In addition to the PTCAS application, applicants must arrange for PTCAS to receive all official U.S. transcripts and fee payment by August 15th.

Applicants must complete six of the nine science prerequisites by the end of the spring 2017 semester to ensure transcripts will arrive to PTCAS by the August 15th deadline.  If the application, transcripts, or fee arrives after the ED deadline, PTCAS will automatically change the applicant’s file from early decision status to “regular” status. To avoid missing the deadline, applicants should not hold transcripts for summer courses, but should request transcripts be sent from all institutions as soon as the application cycle opens in July. Summer 2017 grades may be submitted along with Fall 2017 grades in the December/January Academic Update period.  Admission decisions for ED candidates will be made by September 24th. If accepted by UTC, an ED applicant will not be permitted to apply to any other programs via PTCAS. If UTC denies or moves the applicant’s file to "regular" status, then the applicant will be allowed to apply to other programs in PTCAS for an additional fee.

To be eligible for early decision, applicants must have the following:

  • Minimum 3.4 cumulative GPA
  • Minimum 3.4 GPA for the nine science prerequisites (listed on the prerequisites page under "Eligibility Requirements")
  • Minimum 3.5 GRE analytical writing score. This score is factored into the decision. This is a change from previous years.
  • There is no minimum GRE combined verbal and quantitative score. This is a change from previsous years.

To be considered as an Early Decision candidate, all application materials (including all transcripts) must be received by PTCAS by August 15, 2017. Early Decision applicants should take the GRE no later than July 30th.
