Stuart Benkert, director of bands at UTC, donned
kilt and tartan to lead the bagpipe band. Mocs fans enjoy Riverbend
Scrappy's head was perched on a stick before thousands at Riverbend 2006!
The feathered mascot's image graced the fans of thousands of grateful festival attendees, who happily showed their Mocs spirit. Volunteers from several offices including Undergraduate Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Athletics, Chancellor's Office, Development, Engineering and University Relations helped with the effort.
UTC and Chattanooga State Technical Community College take advantage of Riverbend as an opportunity to promote their partnership in providing higher education to the region. The two institutions share a tent and both distributed fans and information to festival goers.
"Riverbend is a great party for our entire community, and UTC is happy to be a part of it," said Chuck Cantrell, assistant vice chancellor for university relations. "With the hot sun, folks seem to enjoy the Scrappy fans. And it's a wonderful chance for UTC and Chattanooga State to work together and strengthen the relationship between the campuses."
