Patents expert to address Chattanooga Tech Council
David Lynch, a member of Chambliss,
Bahner & Stophel's
Intellectual Property Group, will speak at the next meeting of the Chattanooga
Technology Council. Lynch, who focuses his practice on the preparation
and procurement of patents, strategic management of patent portfolios, and
legal opinions/analysis concerning infringement and enforceability of patent
rights, will speak Wednesday, June 21 at 11:30 a.m. in the Chickamauga Room
of the UTC University Center.
Although patents covering software and business methods have been the most controversial
aspect of patent law in recent years, the criticism they have received has not
slowed an explosion of patent filings as business owners seek to protect their
business models. Lynch will discuss important questions that every company seeking
maximum protection must face: are these patents enforceable? What types
of activities can be protected? What decisions should a business owner make to
take advantage of business method patents or to avoid being accused of violating
such patents?
Lynch is licensed to practice in California, Minnesota and Tennessee and registered
to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also
a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, California Intellectual
Property Law Association, Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association, and
the Licensing Executives Society.
He received his law degree in 1992 from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, and
his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tennessee
in Knoxville in 1982.
Prior to his affiliation with Chambliss, Bahner & Stophel's Intellectual
Property Group,
Lynch spent ten years working as a communications and digital design engineer
with both General Dynamics Corporation in Ft. Worth, Texas, and Hughes Aircraft
Company in Los Angeles, California.
