Perspectives 2006: The Raymond B. Witt Lecture Series will examine Mind/Body/Soul: The Holistic Quest. Sessions will be held Tuesday through Friday, January 17 through January 20. The series is free and open to the public. All events will be held in the UTC University Center Chattanooga Rooms (220).
The Perspectives Lecture Series is supported through the Witt-Bagley Endowment Fund established by Raymond and Florence Witt.

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Geevarghese was a University Honors
student. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in chemistry and from
Vanderbilt University of Medicine as an M.D. in 1994. Geevarghese is
currently pursuing the M.S.C.I. (Master of Science in Clinical Investigation)
from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Dr. Robert Wuthnow
Andlinger Professor of Sociology
Director, Center for Study of Religion, Princeton University
Wuthnow teaches
sociology of religion and cultural sociology, specializing in the use of both
quantitative and qualitative, historical and ethnographic, research methods.
He received a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Most recently,
he has written the books: After
Heaven: Spirituality in America Since the 1950s; Loose Connections:
Joining Together in America’sFragmented
Communities and he has edited Encyclopedia of Politics and
Religion. Wuthnow directs a Lilly-funded project on The Public Role of
Mainline Protestantism in America since the 1960s. He will speak on Creative
Spirituality: The Contemporary Convergence of Art and Religion

Professor of Behavioral Sciences and Health Promotion
The University
of Texas Health Science Center at Houston
School of Public Health, and
Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research
He is also an Adjunct
Associate Professor in the College of Education and Graduate Studies
at the University of Houston and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the
Communications Department at Texas Southern University. He received a
Ph.D. from Arizona State University and an M.P.H. from the University
of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Public Health. His
research interests include health promotion in adolescents, physical
activity determinants and interventions, and health behaviors in underserved
communities. Taylor is extensively published in peer-reviewed scientific
journals, and he co-edited a book published by the American Psychological
Association, Division of Health Psychology entitled, “Health-Promoting
and Health-Compromising Behaviors Among Minority Adolescents.” His
topic will be Environmental
Justice: Physical Activity and the Environment.
The Perspectives lecture series began in 1994 through a collaborative effort by the Student Government Association, Dr. Margaret Kelley of the Development Office and Rocky Renneisen of Student Affairs. The series was spearheaded by Raymond B. Witt.
Witt, a prominent attorney, a Chattanooga community leader, UTC Distinguished Alumnus, University of Chattanooga Foundation member and officer, and former editor of the University newspaper, the Echo, who desired to give back to his community and the University.
His wife, Florence, a prominent Chattanooga volunteer leader, has served as a board member of Hospice of Chattanooga, Partnership for Families and Children and Adults, Girls Preparatory School, and the First Centenary Church. Both Raymond and Florence were recipients of the Kiwanis Club Distinguished Service Award. Florence continues to serve on the Perspectives Planning Committee.
Parking for the lecture series is available in the parking garage on East Fifth Street. Free parking is available at Engel Stadium. Transportation from Engel Stadium to the University Center will be provided with a free CARTA shuttle.
