Center for Community Career Education celebrates 25 years
A gathering at the chancellor’s residence on Lookout Mountain celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Center for Community Career Education. The Center has been the leading educational intervention center in Tennessee for 25 years. Dedicated to promoting education, career development, and workforce preparation, the center serves clients in a seven-county metropolitan area in southeast Tennessee and northwest Georgia.
“We believe the economic health of our area is directly tied to the quality of education an individual receives,” said Sandy Cole, newly named center director. “Whether our services are to assist young people with understanding where they fit in the world of work or helping adults enter college, access to higher education is vitally important to the residents of this region.”
The center’s current programs include—
Education Opportunity Center
In its seventh year of serving high school students
and adults in the area with information and assistance to improve their lives
through education. Free services include assistance with selecting a college,
choosing a major, and completing admissions and financial aid processes. Funded
by the U.S. Department of Education.

WesTech/SoTech Community Technology Center
Serving residents in Chattanooga’s
Westside and Southside communities in the area of computer applications leading
to new jobs or higher education. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Promoting Resolve in Science and Math (PRISM)
Upward Bound Math and Science:
PRISM is a federally funded TRIO program designed to help Hamilton County high
school students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and
science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary education. Funded by
the U.S. Department of Education.

Alliance for Reaching Kids (ARK) Project
Increasing opportunities that promote
high achievement, resilience, and civic involvement to the youth of Chattanooga’s
M.L. King community. Funded by the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth.

BYRNE: Leading Youth to Success (LYTS)
Providing positive in-school, after-school,
weekend, evening, and summer interactions that promote high achievement, resilience,
and civic involvement for students at Howard School of Academics and Technology.
Services include individual needs assessments, goal setting, preventive seminars,
incentives, and mentoring.

GEAR UP
GEAR UP, a federally funded program that promotes postsecondary education,
targets low-income, first generation college attending, high school students
in Bradley County (TN) and Walker County (GA). Services include strengthening
relationships with parents, schools, and communities; providing professional
development opportunities for teachers; and supporting systemic school improvement
plans. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Life Planning
Offering career development services for individuals in career transition.
Assistance includes career assessments, career planning workshops, resume
development, and job search techniques. Donation funded.
