Edwin Lindsey papers

Edwin Lindsey (1897-1989) was a University of Chattanooga Professor from 1924-1968, and head of the English Department part of that time. He was also a music composer. The collection is composed of musical scores, original musical and literary compositions and musical arrangements, including the Beggar’s Opera, King Arthur, Once Upon a Time, William the Norman, Animal Fair, Love in a Village, The Duenna, Shakespeare music, Dido and Aenas, Le bourgeoise Gentilhomme, Incidental music for Shakespeare (As you Like It, Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night, and Romeo and Juliet), The Dragon, Arnes’ Camus, Songs and Dances from Camus, Garden of Eros, Hamlet Opera, as well as some Old English music. Also two original plays, the United Nations pageant, There Shall Be Peace (1952) and the Civil War drama, Beyond the Dark Night (1961). Also, Achievements of the Chattanooga Opera Association, 1943-1978. Dr. Lindsey also donated to the library various rare books.

James Livingood papers

James Livingood (1910- 2005) was an historian and history professor and administrator, University of Chattanooga (1937-1969) and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (1969-1975). Co-author of histories of Chattanooga, the University of Chattanooga, Sequatchie Valley, and aspects of the Civil War. Author of books about Chattanooga and Hamilton County history. Speeches, notes, and newspaper articles on the history of UC; notes of speeches at occasions honoring UC faculty; history of and documents relating to the UC-UTC merger as well as galley proofs of his book Sequatchie: A Story of the Southern Cumberlands. Also his compilation UC Chronology, 1962-1967 and a 1963 news clippings scrapbook about UC.

Marilyn Lloyd papers

A Democrat elected to the 94th Congress in 1974 and reelected to each succeeding Congress until she retired in 1994. She served on the following Congressional committees: House Armed Services Committee; Select Committee on Aging; Subcommittee on Housing and Consumer Affairs (Chair); House Science, Space and Technology Committee; Subcommittee on Energy Research and Development (Chair); TVA Caucus; and Textile Caucus. Press clips; Floor information from each Congressional session; her voting record; legislative correspondence; subject files; district projects; speeches; and files relating to the Armed Services Committee and miscellaneous other legislative activities.

The David Lockmiller papers

David A. Lockmiller (1906-2005) was the president of the University of Chattanooga, 1942-1959. The collection includes photos, correspondence, speeches, scrapbooks, and newspaper clippings relating to Lockmiller’s career, mainly with the University.
