Job Description
  • Check library materials, equipment and study rooms in and out at the main circulation desk.

The Core Collections team is responsible for maintaining the current physical and electronic library collection. Duties include: processing new items for shelving, processing library mail, assisting with bindery, and assistance with upkeep of electronic journals (link checking and statistics gathering.)

Job Description
  • Scan, sort, sensitize and shelve library materials.
  • Shelf books, videos, etc.

The Interlibrary Loan team is responsible for acquiring items for UTC patrons that are not available within the current collection. ILL is also responsible for lending UTC items to other libraries throughout the country and world.

Job Description
  • Scanning print materials (journal articles, book chapters) for electronic lending and borrowing.
  • Opening, sorting, and processing incoming mail.
  • Packaging and labeling outgoing mail.
  • Searching for and retrieving print materials from shelves.
  • Processing returned ILL items.
  • Preparation of non-UTC items for delivery to UTC Library patrons.
  • Assisting with management of current ILL Shelf within circulation.
  • Assistance with searching for and sending electronic ILL borrowing and lending requests.
  • Assistance with management of users within ILL software.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description
  • Assist library users with directional, informational, and basic research questions under the supervision of a Reference librarian.
  • Assist library users with basic software questions (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as hardware and technology needs (e.g. printers, scanners, etc).
  • Maintain supplies in Reference area and library classrooms.
  • Compile statistics for reference books usage, one-on-one appointments, and instruction sessions.

The Special Collections and University Archives team is responsible for acquiring, processing, digitizing, and preserving unique, primary source materials. In particular, the materials focus on UTC, Chattanooga, the state of Tennessee, and the American South.

Job Description
  • Use scanners and cameras to digitize archival materials and rare books.
  • Create descriptive metadata in a spreadsheet.
  • Assist researchers by retrieving materials and completing scanning and photocopy requests.
  • Shelving materials, arranging and describing archival collections, and inventorying resources.
Required Qualifications
  • Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and desire to produce a high quality product.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating system and office productivity software.
  • Punctuality and dependability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data entry and spreadsheets, especially Google Sheets.
  • Experience with digital photography, video editing, and/or graphic design.
  • Specific knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Handbrake, Audacity, and/or other digital media editing and encoding software.
  • Foreign language translation proficiency, especially French and Latin.
