Office of the CIO

The Office of the Chief Information Officer is a division of the Finance Operations and Information Technology (FOIT) and is responsible for providing the leadership and setting the strategic vision for the university. The office handles communication, budgeting, administration, etc for the Information Technology department at UTC.

Chief Technology Officer

The UTC Chief Technology Officer is responsible for the technical infrastructure operation services at UTC. These include engineering, procurement, and installation and 24x7 operation of the technical hardware, systems, and services to support UTC IT.

Network Services

The Network Services department works to design, develop, and implement a secure, reliable, and proficient wired and wireless network.  Our purpose is to provide UTC Students, Faculty, and Staff with secure access to many of the resources available on and off campus.


The Datacenter group provides and maintains the servers and large-scale computing environments that serve the entire University.


The Telecommunications department is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of all voice and data infrastructure.

Enterprise Applications

The Enterprise Applications department provides service for applications in the following areas: Business Process Analysis & Workflows, Communications & Collaboration, and Identity & Access Management.

Center for Academic and Innovative Technologies

The Center for Academic and Innovative Technologies exists to provide a bridge between academic departments and UT Chattanooga's Information Technology division.

Classroom Technologies

We support students first and the instructional and academic mission of the institution by providing audiovisual equipment on and around the campus community.

Geographic Information Systems

The Center for Academic and Innovative Technologies provides the UTC community with access to a wide variety of GIS resources, support services, and opportunities for regional applied research.


Security & Projects

As its name implies, the information security & projects office provides program-level oversight, monitoring and management of the UTC Information Security and campus-wide projects that involve Information Technology.

IT Training

The Solution Center is responsible for developing and providing on-going training for Windows and Apple software utilized by UTC Faculty and Staff.  The goals of the IT Training Program are to:

  • Develop and implement training for various software products, as requested by faculty and staff
  • Provide hands-on training in computer labs 
  • Provide trainees access to online training materials  
  • Query faculty and staff for suggestions related to training methods and topics 


The information Technology Division at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga have launched the DIGITAL program to give students practical, hands-on leadership training in an IT environment.

Procurement - Purchasing

Information technology conducts consolidated purchasing periodically and assists with purchasing computing equipment. Contact Help Desk (423) 425-4000 to inquire or begin the process.

Strategic Solutions

We deliver Help Desk first stop technology support services, Field Support escalated support, and also middle-tier application technologies (databases, software, application servers, integration) in support of critical campus applications, including the student information system (Banner), university web services, and event management.

Solution Center

The Solution Center serves as the first stop and often one stop technology support for  students, faculty, staff, and guests. We provide the first level of assistance for technology related problems or questions. Assistance may be requested online, by calling (423) 425-4000, or by stopping by the Student Technology Center in UC124.

Field Support

Field Support provides escalated technical support for faculty and staff computing devices and campus computer labs. The first stop for technology support is always the Help Desk (423) 425-4000 and the issue will be brought to Field Support if needed.
