Training & Professional Development
HRO 128 is a Human Resources Policy, strongly encouraging every employee at the University of Tennessee to complete a minimum of 32 hours of job- and career-related training per calendar year. HRO 128 applies to exempt and non-exempt employees, regular, full and part time. Training for part-time employees may be prorated. View HRO 128 FAQs.
Training should relate to your present position or enhance your skills for future job growth. With supervisor's approval, classes both within and outside the university, conferences and seminars will count toward your 32 hours.
To receive credit for professional development courses; conferences and seminars; e-learning classes; webinars; training held by university departments; training provided by outside consultants and vendors, you should complete the Request for Additional Credit and submit to the Office of Human Resources for entry into IRIS, the official record of training.
Training opportunities available through Human Resources include online and face-to-face classes. Individual classes may be taken. We also offer several certifications, including the Customer Service Certification that can be completed entirely online.
Additional training opportunities are available through the Walker Center for Teaching and Learning and Continuing Education. For Banner training, contact Records and Registration. For Blackboard training, contact the Walker Center for Teaching and Learning. For IRIS training, contact Melanie Sadler.
