Themed Learning Communities at UTC

 

Themed Learning Communities provide a unique atmosphere for residents who share common interests and cultivate an environment that supports personal growth through academic and social programming. Your decision to live in one of these exciting communities will make an impact on you for the rest of your life. Take the time to read about the different opportunities to get involved with T.L.C. at UTC!

Please Note: If you apply and are accepted to a TLC you will be assigned a room in the designated building. Please review the Housing Rates . The application and acceptance process for TLC’s will end in March 2015.

 

 

High Achieving Mocs (HAM) Living Learning Community

The HAM LLC brings an energetic group of high achieving freshmen together to live in community and share some of the most unique academic experiences offered to new UTC students. HAMmers take two interdisciplinary, team-taught general education courses, each capped at 20 students, as well as a 1-credit course in which they explore their aptitude and develop ability to grow as leaders, collaborators, and creative problem solvers. The HAM Council, elected by the students, works together to craft a schedule of additional social and service programs. Incoming freshmen with at least a 26 ACT and 3.5 GPA are encouraged to apply for this “honorific” living learning community.


 

Healthy Mocs

Healthy Mocs is geared toward students that are interested in leading healthy, active lifestyles. Students will have unique opportunities to be involved in programs focused on eating healthy, staying physically active and all together leading a more productive life during college and thereafter. Another important component will be becoming very involved with many of the activities at the ARC! Come learn how fitness can be fun and rewarding!


 

WILD: Wilderness Leadership Institute

The Wilderness Leadership Institute (WILD) is a learning community that uses adventure trips such as, canoeing, hiking, and climbing to develop leadership skills in college students. WILD offers a number of activities for students to participate in, as well as, encourages students to be active in the outdoors on their own. By providing opportunities for students to enter unfamiliar environments of the wilderness, their community can grow stronger and foster leadership development.


 

Business, LLC

BUSINESS, LLC Community offers first-year business students an exciting opportunity to live, learn, lead and serve as they prepare to become future business and community leaders. Using a network of community members, peer mentors, instructors and residence hall staff, students will make lasting connections and create a strong foundation for success at UTC and in life beyond college. L.E.A.D: Learn! Experience! Achieve! Do!

In line with the UTC’s core values, this community is designed to prepare our rising student leaders for the future, and to explore and develop their leadership in a positive residential environment. Residents will play an active role in exploring what leadership is, what it looks like across campus and beyond, and ultimately their own leadership potential. This community is for first- year students and is a first step toward becoming a student leader at UTC.


 

Go Global! UTC’s International Community

“Go Global!” allows UTC students to live with and learn from returning UTC international exchange students and new international exchange students from all over the world. Here, students will be able to learn about study abroad opportunities, develop skills in a foreign language, foster appreciation and respect for other cultures, and welcome new international students to campus as they learn about UTC, Chattanooga, Tennessee and “The South”. **Go Global is designed for upperclassmen only.
