Essay Topics for
Fall 2017 Brock Scholars Applicants

The Fall 2017 Brock Scholars Application is now available online. 

 

As a part of that application, an essay is required on one of the topics listed below (a complete Brock Scholars application requires several more items in addition to the essay.) 

Please submit an original piece of writing (750 words or so) on one of the following topics. This essay is the cornerstone of your honors application; it should demonstrate sharp, original thinking and showcase your writing at its best.

  1. How has the neighborhood in which you grew up shaped the person you are today? You might consider things like geography, population, diversity, history, socio-economics, architecture, road planning, zoning, etc.

  2. Miles Davis told his musicians, "Don't play what's there, play what's not there." What does this advice mean to you?
