Welcome to the UTC Euphrates Chapter.

The Euphrates Institute is a nonprofit organization that promotes peace initiatives in Middle East, as well as education about the region. Euphrates encourages the formation of local chapters like the one here at UTC. To learn more about the Euphrates Institute, you can visit its website here.

The mission of the UTC Euphrates chapter is to provide a forum in which students can learn about Middle Eastern cultures, history, and politics, as well as to provide a platform on campus for discourse about current events in the region. As a chapter, we hold weekly meetings, visit local places of worship and cultural centers, establish relationships with Middle Eastern communities in Chattanooga, and host campus events such as film viewings, talks, and more. It is our goal that students who participate in chapter activities will be introduced to new perspectives and gain a better understanding of the region and its people.

Recent Euphrates events and activities have included:

  • Roundtable discussion on the Syrian refugee crisis, co-hosted with the History Club
  • Viewing of the film 5 Broken Cameras
  • Visits to local places of worship, including the Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga and Mizpah Reform Synagogue
  • Group lunch at a local Middle Eastern restaurant

We invite interested UTC students to attend our regular meetings and to participate in our trips and special events. There are lots of ways to get involved! To learn more please contact Chapter Leader Allison Cate or Faculty Advisor Dr. Annie Tracy Samuel.
