Dr. Colston joined the UTC faculty in 1999, as an assistant professor in the Post-Professional
Athletic Training Program. Dr. Colston was appointed as the Program Director of the
Professional Graduate Athletic Training Education Program (GATEP) at its inception
in 2001. She has led the GATEP through two successful accreditations, with the most
recent (2009) resulting in zero non-compliance issues for a maximum 10-year accreditation
cycle. Dr. Colston has been a recipient of the UTC Student Government Most Outstanding
Professor Award, an NATA Service Award, and was recently promoted to full professor.
Her research focuses on lumbar spine injury prevention as well as the ethical and
professional aspects of athletic training. She is an active participant in Athletes
in Action, including a trip to Guatemala and participation in monthly videoconferences
with orthopedic surgeons for the Professional Soccer League in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Faith, family and friends, and students are her highest priorities and are therefore
her favorite pastimes. She is married to Jon, who is a musician and business owner
and they have a son, Alexander.
