UTC Chamber Singers Fall 2008
The UTC Chamber Singers is a small chorus of mixed voices that performs
a wide variety of music. They are the main touring choir in the Music
Department at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Previous concerts
have included formal chamber music, major works with orchestra including
the Chichester Psalms by Leonard Bernstein, Lux Aeterna by Mortin Lauridsen,
Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, in addition to folk songs,
spirituals, and vocal jazz.
The Chamber Singers recently returned from a concert tour of Austria
where they performed a joint concert with the chorus from the University
of Vienna in the historic Karlskirche followed by concerts in the abbey
at Melk and both the Cathedral and the University Church in Saltzburg.
They were also the featured college chorus at the 2005 Tennessee Music
Educators Association Convention in Nashville, TN. Dr. Kevin Ford is
the current director and the membership is open to students of all majors
through competitive audition.
Auditions are held on the first day of the semester. The chorus is open
to students from any major excluding freshman voice majors who must take
Choral Union as part of their program of studies. Auditions take roughly
5 minutes and can be arranged by contacting the director and making an
appointment.
