Music Composition

UTC offers the Bachelor of Music degree in Composition. This degree includes 14 credit hours of study in music composition, including both group and individual instruction in composing music. In addition to participating in annual Campus Composers Concerts, music composition majors present a recital of their original music as a "capstone" experience, usually in their senior year of study. Other opportunities for composition students include reading sessions with large and small ensembles including the University Orchestra, Chamber Singers, and student quintets. Occasionally, UTC composition students are commissioned to write music for local groups, churches, or schools. To see and hear what some UTC Composition students are doing, visit the websites of Casey Edwards and Ethan McGrath.
