Anthony J. Steinhoff received his Ph.D. in Modern European History from the University of Chicago in 1996, with a specialization in modern French and German history. He has taught at the University of Chicago, Miami University (Ohio), the College of Charleston,  and he is currently Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, where he teaches courses in world civilizations and modern European history.
