Donnie Swift is a senior majoring in Spanish with a minor in Communication. He is the founding member of the organization, Scholarly Men in Action (S.M.I.A), weathercaster for UTC’s student media organization, “Mocs News”, member of the Spanish club and Student Support Services. He was a nominee for the Dr. Horace Traylor award sponsored by the Multicultural Center.

Donnie has played an active role in a number of campus and community events which were sponsored by the Multicultural Center, the Chamber of Commerce and the Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc.

He described that the most historical experience of his college career was participating in the planning of the University of Tennessee System’s celebration on 50 Years of African American Achievement. Donnie identified and connected with a number of UTC alumni for the Legends of Change event. He also served as a student host in UTC’s African American Achievement dinner where Terrell Owens, Dr. Horace Traylor, Dr. Richard Brown, and many others were celebrated.

Donnie describes his college experience as a roller coaster ride. He said, “While college can be a challenge at times, my motivation is to keep smiling and never give up on the goals that I have accomplished and will accomplish in the future.
