Master of Science in Engineering
The College of Engineering and Computer Science offers a master of science degree with a major in engineering that includes concentrations in chemical engineering (options: chemical sciences or environmental), civil engineering, computational engineering, electrical engineering (options: communication systems, control systems, or power systems), industrial engineering, and mechanical engineering (options: energy or mechanics).
Program
Requirements
The program is individualized and constructed with sound academic practices to provide the kind of study that most fits the student’s needs. Programs consist of a math or engineering analysis component, specialty courses, and theses. With the approval of the Engineering Graduate Committee, students who do full-time engineering work in industrial or governmental organizations may substitute six hours of approved 500-level courses plus Engineering 590, Engineering Project (3 hours) for Engineering 599r, Thesis (6 hours). Required semester credit hours range from 32 to 34 depending on concentration and thesis or projects election
Application Requirements
- Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale or 3.0 in the senior year;
- Submit a letter of application;
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a senior manager, unless the applicant is the senior manager;
- Submit all application materials to the Graduate School at least one month prior to the semester in which courses are to be taken.
Financial
Aid
There are a limited number of graduate assistantships.
A full assistantship includes a $4,400 stipend and a full tuition
waiver. A number of minority fellowships are available.

Research facilities include PC labs; Design Laboratory;
Advanced Computer Applications Laboratory; Materials Testing Laboratory;
Heat Transfer and IC Engines Laboratory; Fluid Mechanics Laboratory;
Distillation Column; Microprocessor Laboratory; Advanced Electronics
Laboratory; Robotics Experimental Facility; Manufacturing Systems
Laboratory; and joint partnerships with industrial laboratories.
