CAREER POSSIBILITIES

A wide variety of career options are available to environmental engineering students after graduation. Career opportunities for environmental engineers are to be found in all areas of manufacturing; in federal, state and local regulatory agencies; and in the burgeoning environmental consulting and remediation industry.

Many of the opportunities for environmental engineers will relate to the chemical process industry, and to industries employing chemicals in the manufacturing process. Waste minimization and remediation of polluted soils and water will require a knowledge of chemical process principles. The environmental engineering specialization at UTC is designed to provide this knowledge.

The UTC environmental engineering specialization also prepares the student for graduate study in engineering and for professional medical training.

UTC has an active cooperative education program. Co-op allows a student to attend college and gain practical engineering experience on either a concurrent or alternating semester schedule. Often, a co-op position will lead to an offer of full-time employment with the co-op employer after graduation.

The expected starting salary range for EnvE graduates is from $35,000 to $45,000 depending upon academic performance, co-op or other work experience and the geographical area of the job site.

EDUCATIONAL INFORMATION

Educational preparation for a career in engineering begins with a high school emphasis in science and mathematics. Chemistry, Physics, four years of Mathematics and English provide the best foundation for engineering study. With an appropriate high school preparation, the UTC student can earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.) degree with specialization in environmental engineering in four years of study. Participation in co-op will add one year to the program of study. The UTC engineering program leading to the B.S.E. degree is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), the national board which accredits qualified engineering programs.
