EngAGING Communities Tennessee Faith Initiative
Empowering faith and religious leaders to minister to older adults and caregivers in their congregations and neighborhoods is a high honor. The EngAGING Communities team aims to provide education and community resources to leaders and volunteers through workshops, needs assessments and action plans. Funded by a grant award from the Tennessee Department of Health, the team has served many churches and individuals.
Coming January 2026: The Age-Friendly Congregations Certificate Program
The Age-Friendly Congregations Certificate equips faith communities to better serve, support, and celebrate older adults. This eight-module program provides practical tools and theological insights to help congregations reframe aging, embrace accessibility, and strengthen intergenerational bonds. Topics include physical and spiritual wellness, leadership development, ministry models, dementia-friendly practices, elder justice, and advocacy. Participants will explore how to design sustainable ministries, promote inclusion, and cultivate meaningful spiritual care for all generations.
MobileMOC is a mobile medical outreach clinic designed to bring free healthcare services directly to older adults (62+) and caregivers in rural communities. Healthcare providers, faculty and students will provide essential care, preventative screenings, annual wellness exams and important support services in ten southeast Tennessee counties including Rhea, Sequatchie, Bledsoe, Marion, Polk, McMinn, Meigs, Bradley, Hamilton and Grundy. Funded by a grant awarded through the Healthcare Resiliency Fund and the Tennessee Department of Health, and in partnership with the Southeast Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability, the MobileMOC team aims to provide interprofessional, Age-Friendly care to allow older adults to age-in-place successfully.
