Scholarships at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga are critical to continuing a tradition of excellence in education. Each year, the University awards more than $2 million in financial assistance from privately supported scholarships. About 75% of current UTC students receive some sort of financial aid. Scholarships at UTC are awarded each year to students based on financial need and/or academic ability.
"Returning to school after being out a few years is scary. Add in having a husband and a young child, and it gets complicated. My biggest concern was if my husband and I would be able to afford it. We realized things were going to be tight, but it was doable, so I went for it. Upon advice from my advisor I applied for any available scholarships through the UTC website. I didn't expect any response because of my transfer student status, so I was overcome with excitement when I got the letter in the mail. I stood in my kitchen laughing, crying and holding my son because I knew this meant I didn't have to worry about providing for my wonderful family! I can't thank the John Hutcherson Scholarship enough for all their help!" - Adriane Smith, John Hutcherson Scholarship recipient
Commitment to Students
Working as partners with alumni, parents, friends and benefactors, our mission is to “serve as a national model of an engaged metropolitan university whose faculty, staff, and students, in collaboration with external partners, employ the intellectual resources of the liberal arts and professional programs to enrich the lives of those we serve.”
The benefits of philanthropy for education are innumerable. Donors who contribute to scholarships not only provide present help to students but leave a legacy of having made a difference in the lives of others.
