Five-man a cappella group based out of Nashville, TN, Breath of Soul are best known for winning the Lady Antebellum A Cappella Contest in 2012. Formed by college friends Jesse Upah, David Kempton, and Tony Marx, the group got its initial start after accepting a job to entertain tourists at Chicago’s Navy Pier for a summer. The band eventually migrated to Nashville where they added members Jake Black (beatbox) and Beck Martin (tenor), renamed itself Breath of Soul, and began focusing on their unique sound and style.

ARMS AND THE MAN, written by Nobel Laureate and Academy Award Winner George Bernard Shaw, treats the audience to a hilarious look at war, romance and upward mobility.  First performed in 1894, this classic play is set in motion when a young woman invites an exhausted soldier to seek refuge in her bedroom, an act of rebellion and flirtation.  Through this chance encounter between “enemies”, Shaw releases a satiric romp that invites the audience to take a new look at love, bravery, and conflict.  Where is the real battlefield?  In our hearts, in our minds, or in our wallets?

This might sound crazy, but…

We are thrilled to be hosting the first ever TEDxChattanooga on Saturday, February 27. The theme for TEDxChattanooga is “This might sound crazy, but…” We believe that some of the most creative, inspiring and thought provoking conversations begin with someone saying “this might sound crazy, but…” In Chattanooga, a group of community leaders dreamed up the crazy idea of building a freshwater aquarium on the Tennessee River. Today, 23 years later, the Tennessee Aquarium is credited with igniting the “Renaissance on the River,” and the revitalization of downtown Chattanooga. We want more examples of crazy ideas in Chattanooga — and the world — that change our society.

This is the spirit of TED and TEDx talks around the world.
