Student Crisis Assistance

 

Cases that present an immediate threat to self, others, or property should be considered an emergency and directed to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department: 423-425-4357 or 911 (from on-campus phone)

The Dean of Students Office works with campus and community organizations to provide a number of services to assist students, and in some cases their families and friends, during an emergency or crisis situation. Our office does not provide counseling services.

Emergencies include (but are not limited to):

  • Death of a student or former student
  • Death of a relative
  • Family emergency
  • Attempted suicide
  • Student injury or illness
  • Interpersonal violence or stalking
  • Sexual assault
  • Missing student
  • Apartment or house fire
  • Natural disaster
  • Concerns about academic adjustment or performance

Services include (but are not limited to):

  • Student absence notifications
  • Outreach and advocacy for students
  • Coordination with relevant UTC departments
  • Short term emergency shelter (when available)
  • General consultation
