Dr. Love joined the Criminal Justice Department in Fall of 2010 after having taught in the Penn State University system and at Ball State University. Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Love graduated from the University of Oklahoma with her doctorate in Sociology (2001). She received her Master’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma in the Management and Administration of Criminal Justice (1995), and her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Substance Abuse Counseling (1994). She has worked as a substance abuse counselor on an in-patient hospital unit in Oklahoma. Additionally, she has counseled families, incarcerated populations, and adjudicated youth. While working on her Master’s degree she began her teaching career at the University of Central Oklahoma in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.
She served as a past Chair of the Division on Women on Crime (DWC) within the American Society of Criminologists. Additionally she has served as past Treasurer/Secretary for the DWC and past Treasurer for the Northeast Association of Criminal Justice Sciences (NEACJS). She holds current memberships in the American Society of Criminologists, and Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.
Although still new to UTC and the Chattanooga community, she is involved in supporting the Women’s Center, has served as an organizer for the Women’s Studies Lecture Series, and serves on the UTC Speaker and Special Events Committee.
Her current research is focused on minority and disenfranchised populations as they related to issues of justice/injustice, as well as intimate partner violence.
