Research and Teaching Interests:
Family law, domestic relations, juvenile law and general practice issues.
Karen McGuffee is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Legal Assistant Studies program at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she primarily teaches Legal Research and Writing, Contract Law, Family Law, Evidence Law and Legal Ethics. While at UTC, Professor McGuffee has been named a UC Foundation Professor, a Student Government Association Outstanding Professor (2001-2002), and received awards for Outstanding Service in the College of Arts and Sciences (2012), Excellence in Teaching for the College of Arts and Sciences (2007), Outstanding Advising for the College of Health and Human Services (2000, 2002), and Outstanding Advising for the University (2002).
Prior to teaching, Ms. McGuffee worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Chattanooga from 1992-1995. She was in private practice before joining the District Attorney’s Office.
Ms. McGuffee received a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1987 and her J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1990.
