SUMMARY:

ITG (the “Company”) is a Chattanooga, TN based firm focused on industrial machine design and fabrication. Current project backlogs require support for engineers and project teams engaged in design work related to process automation, fluid control systems, and atmospheric process controls. Draftsperson required at the Cummings Rd. facility approximately forty (40) hours per week.

TASKS:

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager & Director of Operations the intern will gain valuable hands-on insight into the real world application of engineering principles while witnessing  his or her designs come to life in a working machine and fabrication shop.

In this role, the intern will:  

  1. Create, modify, and maintain dimensional designs, layouts, and drawings including 2D surface drawings & 3D solid modeling designs, and all related documentation using SolidWorks® computer-aided design (CAD) system in support of project engineers and field installers during design, development, manufacturing, testing, and field commissioning.
  2. Analyze blue-print and P&ID drawings, hand sketches, or verbal direction to utilize software to develop an “Issued for Construction” (IFC) group of product drawings and designs.
    • Use computer-aided drafting equipment, technical handbooks, tables, and other tools to create to-scale drawings of newly designed equipment.
    • Measure factors that affect installation and arrangement of equipment, such as creating “to scale” drawings with listed measurements
    • Draft working drawings as required with instructions to installation crew
    • Maintain design integrity by using SolidWorks EPDM Vault
  3. Work with engineering team to create needed designs
  4. Interpret and ensure conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company defined design parameters
  5. Prepare presentations to present and explain work completed for group review
  6. Confer with engineering staff and other personnel to resolve potential design flaws or installation problems
  7. Revise drawings based on instructions from engineers

SKILLS:

Qualifications necessary to safely and efficiently perform the Tasks including;

  1. SolidWorks experience; SolidWorks Elite Certification, a plus.
    • Ability to create or modify 3-D geometries in both Surfacing, as well as Solid environments.
    • Experience designing with structural steel and other support components, sheet metal, aluminum, etc.
    • Experience with mechanical pumps a plus.
  2. Ability to read/interpret blue-print and P&ID drawings.
  3. Ability to understand notations & symbols commonly used to give instructions on drawings and blueprints
  4. Understanding and ability to solve the equations, calculations and written instructions from engineers
  5. Strong computer skills including MS word, MS Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  6. Ability to work within a team and independently as required
  7. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  8. Willingness to collaborate to solve problems; Strong trouble-shooting skills, a plus
  9. Strong mechanical aptitude
  10. Ability to meet deadlines and stay on task

  • Work possible overtime on weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Work atop ladders, lifts and roofs, not allergic to dust.

Southeastern Tool & Design - Mechanical Engineer

Summary:
Intern would support Design Engineers who are designing and project managing custom machine projects for Southeastern Tool & Design’s customers. Customers include Volkswagen, Gestamp, Gill Industries, Denso, Nissin Brakes, Komatsu, Shaw Industries and others. This would include detailing designs in Solidworks, creating subset designs of larger assemblies, assist in qualification and certification of fixtures and gauges, assisting in assembly of machine components, reverse engineering of parts, and other similar engineering tasks.

  • Detailing drawings in Solidworks – working with machine prints and tolerancing

Job Title: Visualization Specialist

Job Description:

Client is in need of a Visualization Specialist to join their team on a full-time basis. This person's main responsibility will be working with Callidus to create high quality, color and scale accurate virtual product simulations and visualizations in digital and/or hard copy format for the Carpet Flooring Business. This person needs to have great color-matching skills, as he/she will be using Photoshop to correct color schemes and fit carpet product designs into their official template.

Job Details:

  • Callidus - this person needs to have some basic knowledge of Callidus. If someone has used Callidus, he/she will know how to install different products within that room layout. Sufficient knowledge of Callidus is a must have.
  • Photoshop - this person will be working with Photoshop both before and after Callidus work. Before using Callidus, this person may need to collect or generate patterns within Photoshop. From Callidus, once he/she finishes installation, the work will be taken back into Photoshop to implement it into a custom template. There will be some work around color corrections.

Job Summary

  • Learn from the best(!) as you assist our Corporate Engineering Groups in all phases of projects helping to ensure cost, schedule and performance objectives are successfully met
  • Participate in Core Problem Solving of equipment/process related issues; assist Plant Maintenance with troubleshooting and solution implementation
  • Assist in planning and coordinating project installations, including coordinating and overseeing vendors and mechanical/electrical contractors
  • Collect and verify field dimensions and other data
  • Assure installations adhere to approved drawings
  • Track all purchase requisitions, and drawing packages from design through installation
  • Provide weekly updates to management on project status and schedule progress/completion
  • Perform CAD operations to check equipment layout and prepare as built drawings for installed equipment
  • Participate in continuous improvement /Lean initiatives and events
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Current enrollment / full completion of at least 2 full academic years of a BS degree program in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering school OR completion of 2 years of full-time pre-engineering studies program by May 2017, along with a verifiable acceptance into an ABET-accredited 4 year engineering program for fall of 2017
  • Academic eligibility to attend classes in the fall
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple project activities
  • Willingness to travel to other McKee facilities, vendor locations, and suppliers as required
  • High level of initiative, assertiveness and self-direction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to excel in a project team environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with continuous improvement philosophies such as Lean or Six Sigma
  • Familiarity and experience with CAD, FEA and other design software
  • Prior technical work experience
  • Knowledge of shop practices (machine & fabrication)
  • Knowledge of schematic reading
  • Minimum GPA of 2.75

UTC College of Engineering & Computer Science - Design Lab Technician

This position will assist students with design projects to include, but not limited to, 3-D modeling, failure analysis, manufacturability, material selection, fabrication, and assembly. Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining equipment in the engineering design lab and keeping the environment clean and safe.
  • Training students in the proper and safe usage of equipment in the design lab; assessing each student’s competency with each piece of equipment he/she will be using.
  • Determining if design concepts will help meet the overall goal of the project, to include determining if a component should be fabricated or bought, and determining which component to buy.
  • Advising student and faculty on material selection, fabrication strategy, and design elements in order to make the best use of time and resources.
  • Making repairs and custom fabricate lab components when required; maintaining other engineering labs as needed.
  • Hands-on support and advisement of Capstone Design projects.

CECS Student Research Assistant

The Unmanned Systems Laboratory in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at UTC is searching for both undergraduate and graduate students to perform research. The students selected are expected to work with faculty and other students on a number of robotics projects. In particular, we are looking for students who will contribute toward our research efforts in developing (1) cooperative control and coordination technologies for multiple robotic systems and (2) cooperative sensing capabilities of mobile sensors.
