As an I/E Technician, you will install, maintain, and troubleshoot site instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment in order to provide a safe operation with maximum production availability. Principle responsibilities include:

BASF - Quality Assurance Lab Tech

This position is responsible for quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products for the BASF Corp. High Solids Styrene-Butadiene Dispersions Plant in Chattanooga, TN.  The incumbent will conduct analytical testing on finished SB latex in support of a 24/7 ISO 9001 manufacturing operation.  Evaluation of data is based on internal and external specifications. The incumbent will evaluate products and interact with the Production Team to expedite shipment to customers utilizing SAP.

The key tests include the safe, accurate and timely measurement of viscosity, solids content, pH, particle size, surface tension, coagulum as well as excellent analytical skills involving titrations, FTIR, refractive index, and gas chromatography. A developed proficiency in workflow management and prioritization is necessary to support the speed of production.

Lab Technicians will work on a 12-hour rotating shift with 24/7 coverage.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A minimum of 3 years laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment - ISO certification is preferred
  • Ability to operate various controlled instruments in addition to familiarity with personal computers (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

The Office of Science / US Department of Energy is pleased to announce paid research internship opportunities for undergraduate students majoring in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) for the . The application system for the  Term Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program is currently open, with all applications due by 05:00 PM Eastern Time on January 13, 2017.

The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program places students from 2 and 4 year undergraduate institutions as paid interns in science and engineering research activities at DOE national laboratories and facilities, working with laboratory staff scientists and engineers on projects related to ongoing research programs. Appointments are for 10 weeks during the Summer term, are open to US Citizens and US Lawful Permanent Residents, include a weekly stipend, reimbursement for one round trip domestic travel to the participant’s host DOE laboratory, and possibilities for a housing allowance. More than 850 internships are sponsored annually.

CECS Student Research Assistant

The Unmanned Systems Laboratory in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at UTC is searching for both undergraduate and graduate students to perform research. The students selected are expected to work with faculty and other students on a number of robotics projects. In particular, we are looking for students who will contribute toward our research efforts in developing (1) cooperative control and coordination technologies for multiple robotic systems and (2) cooperative sensing capabilities of mobile sensors.
