Computer Science and Engineering Undergraduate Curriculum
With technology ever changing, students in UTC’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering have access to some of the best computer technology available in the southeast. The Committee on National Security Systems and the National Security Agency certified and designated this department as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
The Computer Science and Engineering Department offers a core of computer science courses with opportunities of additional courses in five areas:
- Software Systems (Clearpath Showcase)
The application of computers to business problems.
- Scientific Applications (Clearpath Showcase)
The application of computers to solving numerically oriented scientific and engineering problems.
- Information Security and Assurance (Clearpath Showcase)
The protection of computer systems, computer networks, and the information stored on them from misappropriation or malicious attack.
- Data Sciences (Clearpath Showcase)
- Computer Engineering
The study of the structure, function, and interaction of computer hardware and software.
In all five areas of study emphasis is placed on problem solving as well as competencies in software and hardware design.
At UTC, students graduate prepared to impact society by making a difference in our lives while using technology to improve the way we live and interact with each other. They are prepared for productive and challenging careers in computer and information technology, and to function as leaders in a technology-oriented society.
