UTC's ASCE had its best overall finish in 2012 by placing 10th at the Southeastern Student Conference. Many lessons were learned at this year's competition, and ASCE members are ready to begin competition work. Many lessons were learned after participating in competition last year, and UTC's ASCE is more eager than ever to begin work on this year's competition. This coming year ASCE members that have competed in previous competitions will be filling new leadership roles, and their experience and background will propel UTC's ASCE to greater achievements and accomplishments. In March of 2013, UTC's ASCE will be traveling to Miami, Florida to compete in the Southeastern Student Conference against universities such as UT Knoxville, Alabama, Florida, and Vanderbilt.
The Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe Teams are made up of students form the UTC ASCE Student Chapter, an association of like-minded students who desire to increase their knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering. Students organize local plant tours and prepare for major spring competitions such as Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge in the fall semester. In the spring, students will participate in thirteen competitions that highlight geotechnical, structural, environmental, hydraulic, surveying, concrete mix design, and the steel fabrication aspects of Civil Engineering. These competitions will be held at the largest regional conference in the United States, the ASCE Southeastern Student Conference.
