Wright-Bentley Scholars 2010-2011

The Wright-Bentley Scholarship is awarded to students that have demonstrated strong academic skills and service to the community and university. Selected students have proven themselves to be highly motivated, intellectually strong and civic-minded.

B.S. Business Administration: Marketing

Alex serves as president, founder, coach, and starting pitcher of the UTC Club Baseball team. He is also the founder and president of the UTC Bass Anglers Club. Alex is a member of the University Honors Program and a staff member for UTC Campus Recreation. He is a staff sports reporter for the UTC Echo.  Alex was selected to the South Atlantic Conference's All-Region 2nd Team as a starting pitcher. He studied abroad through the National Student Exchange at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas during the Fall 2009 semester. Alex volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, Chambliss Children’s Home, and Relay for Life.

After graduation, Alex plans to earn a MBA from UTC.

 


Christine Currens

Christine Currens

B.S. Business Administration: Finance
B.S. Business Administration: Accounting

Christine is a member of Habitat for Humanity and University Honors. She has volunteered for the Ronald McDonald House, the Children's Fall Festival, VITA Tax Clinic, and the Bethlehem Center. She is part of the Emmaus Community and has served as an assistant table leader and speaker for two of the spiritual retreats. She completed her Departmental Honors project titled “ ASC 820 (Formerly SFAS 157): A Look at Fair Value Accounting.” Christine was a finance intern for the Krystal Corporation and an audit intern for Ernst & Young.

After graduation, Christine will work for Ernst & Young. She plans to sit for the CPA and CFP exams, earn her MBA, and eventually work as a financial planner.

 

DAvid DanceDavid Dance

David enjoys basketball, golf, backpacking, piano, and playing the guitar. He has spent two of his summers teaching and assisting the youth for United Church of God Summer Camps as a member of the volleyball and flag football staff. David will be volunteering at similar camp this summer in Pennsylvania. He plays intramural sports at UTC including football and softball. 

After graduation, David plans to work for one of the “Big Four” accounting firms.

 

Kathleen HarrisKathleen Harris

B.S. Business Administration: Entrepreneurship 
B.S. Business Administration: Marketing

Kathleen is the president of the UTC Chapter of the American Marketing Association.  She was a volunteer for the UTC Gear Up program and the Maggie Mae Fund for needy animals.  Kathleen is currently pursuing an internship with the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center as an administrative intern.  She is passionate about animals and enjoys volunteering for animal welfare organizations.  Kathleen is a trained veterinarian assistant.  She enjoys scrapbooking, photography, and reading.

After graduation, Kathleen plans to gain experience while pursuing an MBA.  Eventually, she wants to open and maintain a veterinary practice in the Chattanooga area.

 

Erin MurdochErin Murdoch 

B.S. Business Administration: Accounting

Erin is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Mortarboard, the University Honors Program, and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She enjoys volunteering for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.  Erin loves to read as well as play the piano.  She is the College of Business statistics and operations management tutor.  Erin has completed accounting internships with Joseph Decosimo and Company, Unum Group, and Signal Centers. 

After graduation, Erin plans to work in public accounting.  She would like to obtain her Masters of Accountancy and pursue a teaching career after earning her doctorate in accounting.

 

 

Katie StricklandKatie Strickland

B.S. Business Administration: General Management 
B.S. Business Administration: Human Resources

Katie is a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and Campus Crusade for Christ. She is also involved with Mortar Board National College Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society, and the Society for Human Resource Management. Katie volunteers for the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Fall Festival, and Race for the Cure. She received the Outstanding Undergraduate Assistant Award for 2010. Katie is a human resources intern at Tennessee Valley Authority and an assistant resident director for the Johnson Obear Apartments on campus. 

After graduation, Katie plans to obtain a MBA at UTC and work in the field of Human Resources.
