John C. StophelDistinguished Student Award

2010-2011

The College of Business John C. Stophel Distinguished Student Award is presented annually to recognize high potential business students who have made significant and meaningful civic contributions to UTC and the College of Business while maintaining a strong academic record.

Students must provide evidence of exceptional extracurricular leadership and community service, strong leadership skills, self-motivating initiative, exceptional presentation skills, and a strong academic record with minimum GPA of 3.0.

Alex_Craw Alex Craw 

B.S. Business Administration: Marketing

Alex serves as president, founder, coach, and starting pitcher of the UTC Club Baseball team. He is also the founder and president of the UTC Bass Anglers Club. Alex is a member of the University Honors Program and a staff member for UTC Campus Recreation. He is a staff sports reporter for the UTC Echo.  Alex was selected to the South Atlantic Conference's All-Region 2nd Team as a starting pitcher. He studied abroad through the National Student Exchange at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas during the Fall 2009 semester. Alex volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, Chambliss Children’s Home, and Relay for Life.

After graduation, Alex plans to earn a MBA from UTC.

 

 

 

 

 

Bethany_Daniel Bethany Daniel 

B.S. Business Administration: Accounting

Bethany is a member of the UTC marching band, symphonic band, and a majorette.  She served as treasurer and vice president of ritual for Sigma Alpha Iota, an international music fraternity for women.  Bethany served on the Girls Scout Gold Award Committee and the Finance Committee for East Ridge United Methodist Church.  She is an accountant assistant at Decosimo and Company. 

After graduation, Bethany plans to obtain a MBA and become a certified public accountant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kathleen-Harris Kathleen Harris

B.S. Business Administration: Entrepreneurship 
B.S. Business Administration: Marketing

Kathleen is the president of the UTC Chapter of the American Marketing Association.  She was a volunteer for the UTC Gear Up program and the Maggie Mae Fund for needy animals.  Kathleen is currently pursuing an internship with the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center as an administrative intern.  She is passionate about animals and enjoys volunteering for animal welfare organizations.  Kathleen is a trained veterinarian assistant.  She enjoys scrapbooking, photography, and reading.

After graduation, Kathleen plans to gain experience while pursuing an MBA.  Eventually, she wants to open and maintain a veterinary practice in the Chattanooga area.

 

 

 

 

Jessalin_Hughey Jessalin Hughey 

B.S. Business Administration: Accounting

Jessalin is a recording secretary and accounting tutor for Beta Alpha Psi.  She volunteers for the VITA Tax Clinic, Habitat for Humanity, Northside Neighborhood House, United Way, Susan G. Komen, the Heart Walk, and the March of Dimes.  Jessalin is a volunteer administrative assistant for Tennessee Pain Surgery Center. 

After graduation, Jessalin plans to obtain a MAcc and eventually become a partner at a multinational company.

Brittany is the Student Body and Student Government Association vice president.  She has been SGA treasurer and chairwoman of the Social Issues Committee.  Brittany completed an internship at McGill Financial Ensemble.  She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Golden Key International Honour Society.  Brittany has participated in the St. Jude Half Marathon and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

After graduation, Brittany plans to work in public accounting, earn her CPA designation, and obtain a MAcc or MBA.

 

 

 

 

 

Erin_Murdoch Erin Murdoch 

B.S. Business Administration: Accounting

Erin is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, Mortarboard, the University Honors Program, and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She enjoys volunteering for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Diabetes Association.  Erin loves to read as well as play the piano.  She is the College of Business statistics and operations management tutor.  Erin has completed accounting internships with Joseph Decosimo and Company, Unum Group, and Signal Centers. 

After graduation, Erin plans to work in public accounting.  She would like to obtain her Masters of Accountancy and pursue a teaching career after earning her doctorate in accounting.

 

 

 

 

 

Anders_Ravenholt Anders Ravenholt 

B.S. Business Administration: General Management

Anders has improved the UTC Student Technology Center lab imaging system, improved statistical reporting system for the lab, and improved the imaging system at the UTC Help Desk.  He developed a website for the UTC Chapter of Golden Key and has participated in various community activities including Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Lupus Foundation walk, and Habitat for Humanity. 

After graduation, Anders plans to pursue a master’s degree in Management Information Systems.  He would like to work in a large environment that values business information systems efficiency.

April has competed in the Society for Advancement of Management National Case Competition.  She mentored Brown Academy students through a program called P.A.W.S (Positive Action with Success).  April was a business agent for IM Business Consultants and a Resident Assistant for UTC

After graduation, April plans to work in human resources.  She eventually wants to become a mediator or arbitrator.

 

 

 

 

 

Deangelo_Williams DeAngelo Williams 

B.S. Business Administration: Accounting 
B.S. Business Administration: Finance

DeAngelo is a member of the Beta Alpha Psi, Financial Management Association, the Economics Club, and vice president of Institute for Managerial Accountants.  He volunteers for the Ronald McDonald Fall Festival, Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Rotarian Chambliss Christmas, and the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program.  DeAngelo organized fundraisers for March of Dimes, Haiti Relief, and St. Jude Hospital.  He tutors in mathematics at the Boys and Girls Club and tutors introductory finance and statistics for the College of Business.  DeAngelo is a lead supervisor and service desk manager at K-Mart as well as an accounting assistant manager for UTC.  

After graduation, DeAngelo will enroll in the MBA program at UTC.   He plans to sit for the CPA, CFP, and CFA exams.  His career goals include working in public accounting, investment banking, and eventually owning a real estate business and a not-for-profit organization.

 

 

Graduate Students

Minh-Hang_Le Minh-Hang Lee

Master of Accountancy 

Minh-Hang is a volunteer for the American Red Cross youth council, Erlanger Hospital, VITA tax clinic, Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  She is tutor for introductory finance, accounting, and calculus classes.  Minh-Hang is a member of the Technology Committee of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Beta Alpha Psi, Golden Key International Honour Society, and the treasurer for the International Student Organization.  She is also a translator for the Vietnamese community in Chattanooga.  Minh-Hang currently manages two of her family’s businesses. 

After graduation, Minh-Hang plans to sit for the CPA exam, work in the government sector as an auditor, and eventually own a business contracting for the government.
