COURSE DESCRIPTIONS (for Special Topics & Seminar Classes Not in UTC's Main Class Schedule- MKT 5660)

MKT 5660.0 (20742)- Seminar in Marketing (Services Marketing)
MKT 5660 is an elective seminar course in services marketing for graduate business students. The course premise is that organizations whose core product is a service (e.g., banks, utilities, hotels, hospitals, professional services, etc.) require a  separate and distinct approach to marketing—both in strategy development and operational execution. In addition, manufacturers often provide service as part of their market offerings, requiring them to become proficient at delivering quality service. Great customer service can be an effective differentiation strategy for many firms, as seen by the success of companies such as L.L. Bean, Nordstrom, Federal Express, Amazon, Southwest Airlines, USAA, and others. Building strong customer relationships through quality service is at the heart of many organizations today, making service an essential core competency. This course investigates topics such as the characteristics of services  and service customers, customers’ service expectations, service quality, service operations, service recovery, customer satisfaction and complaint behavior, customer loyalty, and customer retention.
