Application and Admissions Requirements for the campus MBA and MAcc Programs

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To complete your application you must submit the following:

APPLICATION

Complete an online application at the UTC Graduate School's web site.

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS

Submit to UTC's Graduate School official transcripts from each college or university attended.

APPLICATION FEE

Pay a $30 one-time, non-refundable application fee. ($35 for international student applications). This fee is paid when completing the online application.

PROOF OF IMMUNIZATION

Provide proof of your immunization records to Student Health Services.

GMAT or GRE SCORES

Take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and report the scores to UTC.

OTHER

International student applicants (not U.S. born or naturalized citizens) have additional application requirements detailed in the International Student Application Guide on the UTC International Student Services Office web site. Note: International student applicants submit admission materials to the UTC International Student Services Office.

 

ADMISSION CRITERIA

Consideration for admission to the MBA & MAcc Programs is based on the following:

(Note: Requirements described are minimum requirements for consideration and do not guarantee acceptance into a specific graduate degree program or the UTC Graduate School.)
BACHELOR'S DEGREE Have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university (any major is acceptable) or foreign equivalent and be in good academic standing at the last institution attended.
GPA

To be considered for degree regular admission, must meet one of the following requirements from a regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent. All GPAs are based on a 4.0 point scale; the last two years of undergraduate coursework are equivalent to approximately 60-70 semester hours or 90-100 quarter hours.

  • 2.70 minimum GPA for all undergraduate work taken for the baccalaureate degree or
  • 3.00 GPA for the last two years of undergraduate academic coursework or
  • 3.00 GPA for 30 or more semester hours undergraduate credit after earning the first bachelor's degree or
  • 2.70 GPA for the last two years of undergraduate coursework and a 3.00 GPA on fewer than 24 hours graduate coursework or
  • 3.00 GPA for 24 or more graduate hours or
  • An earned master's degree or higher-level degree with at least a 3.00 GPA.

OFFICIAL GRADUATE EXAM SCORE

(Either GMAT or GRE)

MUST HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

    • Official GMAT Overall Score of 450 or Higher
    • Official GRE Overall Score* of 296 or Higher AND Minimum Section Scores of 146 on Verbal & 144 on Quantitative
      • *Overall GRE Score consists of the combined scores of the GRE Quantitative and Verbal Sections.
      • Score requirements for the old version of the GRE (taken prior to August 2011)- Official Overall Score of 1000 or Higher AND Minimum Section Scores of 400 on Verbal & 500 on Quantitative.

NOTE: GMAT or GRE scores more than five years' old cannot be considered.

 

 

GRADUATE EXAM INFORMATION

TAKING THE GMAT OR GRE

The GMAT & GRE are offered as computer based tests. On average the exams can be completed in about four hours. Upon completion of the exam, you will be given an unofficial score report. Official scores will arrive two to three weeks after the exam date.

GMAT:

  • Offered on a regular basis at Pearson Professional Centers throughout the country.

 GRE:

  • Offered on a regular basis at Prometric test centers throughout the country.

PREPARING FOR THE GMAT OR GRE

To prepare for the content of the exams, you can:

  • Find several GMAT or GRE preparation books at local bookstores. The preparation books include sample test questions, preparation tips and skill building problems.
  • Sign up to take an online preparatory course. UTC's Continuing Education has reasonably priced GMAT & GRE online prep course offered on a regular basis.
  • Kaplan offers GMAT & GRE preparatory classes.

 

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

 

International applicants apply for graduate admission through UTC's International Student Services Office.

Above are the general UTC Graduate School screening dates. Applicants applying after the Graduate School screening dates should contact the degree program to verify that there is still space available for new students. International student applicant deadlines are fixed and must be met.

 

ADMISSION BY EXCEPTION 

If after taking the GMAT or GRE, the student does not have the required test scores to meet admission requirements, he/she can request to be considered for admission by exception. (If the request is approved, the student's admission would likely be conditional.) 

  • Please contact Elizabeth Bell, Director of Business Graduate Programs, to inquire about this process at (423) 425-4210.
  • To considered for admission by exception, complete the ADMISSION BY EXCEPTION request form, available through the Business Graduate Programs director, and return to the College of Business Graduate Programs Office.
  • Please be aware that there is no guarantee that a student who submits an admission by exception request will be admitted.
  • International student applicants are not eligible for admission by exception requests or conditional admission.
