Details:
The String Project at UTC provides an opportunity for school-aged children to learn a stringed instrument at a reasonable cost. Students receive private and group instruction on their chosen instrument from qualified music interns under the supervision of an experienced string music educator. Students in grades 3-12 may apply for admission to the program. If an orchestra exists at the student’s school, they must be enrolled in that group to participate in the String Project. UTC has a limited number of instruments available for rental.

In this class we will learn and engage in a writing process known as Proprioceptive Writing (PW). Whether you are interested in writing primarily for yourself or for an audience, PW can help you express yourself with precision and strength. Through PW you can learn to focus attention, develop discipline, narrate and explore experience in depth, discover life stories, and bring more of yourself into your writing. Your writing will become more textured, cathartic, and fresh. As a bonus, the writing that is generated by this process will provide a rich storehouse of raw material that you can draw on for future writing projects.

For an exciting boost to combat the late January “blahs,” come and hear the Alexander-Soares Duo in concert at Cadek Recital Hall, at UTC, 725 Oak St., Chattanooga, on January 24, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., featuring James Alexander on violin, and Luciana Soares on piano. They will be performing music by Brazilian composer Liduino Pitombeira, Karol Szymanowski, and UTC composer Jonathan McNair, who is coordinating and hosting the concert. It is presented with the support of the UTC Speakers and Special Events Fund, and the UTC Department of Music. Come skiing/snowboarding with UTC Outdoors. We drive up early on Saturday morning, spend the day on the slopes, and come home the same night. Transportation in provided

$50 + $18 for ski Rentals or $25 for Snowboard Rental (UTC does have a limited supply of snowboards available with a $50 check deposit)
