On Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 1:40 p.m., UTC’s Music Department will present the Music Seminar “If I were a Student Today” featuring renowned American Composer, Teacher and Trumpeter Anthony Plog. It will take place in the UTC Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall, 752 Vine St., Chattanooga, and is open to the entire university, is presented free of charge and is open to the general public. Mr. Plog will also be presenting a Composition Masterclass and Trumpet Masterclass.

Jun Qian, guest clarinetist - "River City Clarinet Festival"

The UTC Music Department, in collaboration with the Chattanooga Clarinet Choir, is pleased to present the second annual “River City Clarinet Winter Festival” on Saturday, January 19, 2013. This year’s guest artist-clinician will be Dr. Jun Qian, an internationally renowned performer and teacher who is widely recognized for blending formidable technical agility with impeccable musical artistry. The guest artist recital, featuring Jun Quian, will take place at Cadek Recital Hall, 725 Oak St., Chattanooga at 2:00 p.m. The Chattanooga Clarinet Choir and the Festival Clarinet Choir, directed by Jun Qian and Robert Dugan respectively, will take place at Roland Hayes Concert Hall in the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St., Chattanooga at 5:00 p.m. Performances are presented free of charge and open to the general public. The Alexander-Soares Duo

Details:
For an exciting boost to combat the late January “blahs,” come and hear the Alexander-Soares Duo in concert at Cadek Recital Hall, at UTC, 725 Oak St., Chattanooga, on January 24, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., featuring James Alexander on violin, and Luciana Soares on piano. They will be performing music by Brazilian composer Liduino Pitombeira, Karol Szymanowski, and UTC composer Jonathan McNair, who is coordinating and hosting the concert. It is presented with the support of the UTC Speakers and Special Events Fund, and the UTC Department of Music. "60 x 60"

Details:
Imagine 60 miniature musical compositions, lasting no more than one minute each, created by musicians from around the world and presented back-to-back in a seamless one-hour event. “60 x 60” is an electro-acoustic music event that is enhanced with artistic video. Founded by composer Robert Voisey in 2003 and eclectic by nature, “60 x 60” offers an unmatched diversity of styles, making for a fast-speed, electrifying one-of-a-kind performance that never ceases to surprise. All individual performances of “60 x 60” are unique to the region where it is performed, making this performance, hosted and coordinated by UTC professor and composer Jonathan McNair, unique to Chattanooga.

“60 x 60” will take place at the Roland Hayes Concert Hall at the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine Street, Chattanooga, at 7:30 p.m. on January 28, 2013. Details:
The UTC Music Department is pleased to present a faulty recital featuring Eric Hanson, Double Bass and Violone. He will be accompanied by guest artists Ellie Jenkins, Horn, and Kris Carlisle, Piano. Wenzel Pichl’s “Concerto in D major for violone and piano” will be included in the evening’s recital, as well as “Moon Lillies for horn and piano” by Lydia Busler-Blais, “Concerto in D major for violone and piano” by Johann Baptist Vanhal and “Trio Sonata for horn in F, double bass and piano” by Karen Griebling. The performance will take place at Cadek Recital Hall, 725 Oak St., on January 30, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. It is presented free of charge and is open to the general public.

Concerto Competition Winners Concert

Details:
The UTC Music Department is pleased to present the “Concerto Competition Winners Concert”, featuring the UTC Orchestra, Jooyong Ahn, director. Each year this competition provides an opportunity for our most talented vocalists and musicians to perform with the UTC Orchestra. Highlights include performances by vocalists Kala Cisson, soprano, and Jason Ryan O’Neal, bass-baritone, and pianists Ethan McGrath, Roy Treiyer and John Tunstall. The recital will take place in the UTC Fine Arts Center, Roland Hayes Concert Hall, 752 Vine St., on January 31, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. It is presented is presented free of charge and open to the general public.
