Thinking in Writing
Calendar: cal11
Posted by: Continuing Education
Details:
Learn to use writing as a tool for deep thinking. Everyone
thinks, but many thoughts dwell below the surface of
expression, yet these thoughts determine how we experience
ourselves. Writing can be a pleasurable, creative way to come
face-to-face with these inner thoughts that influence our lives
profoundly. As they come into focus, our perspective on them
shifts—from distant and obscure to up close and clear. This
shift in perspective produces a sense of greater growing space.
We find more room within ourselves for creativity and play.

Patten Performances Present: Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance
Calendar: cal4
Posted by: Robert Boyer
Details:
Continuing its rich tradition of bringing the most important dance companies to Chattanooga, the Patten Performances present the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company as part of our 33rd season. This company needs little introduction; its importance springs from the 11-year collaboration between Jones and Zane (1948-1988) that redefined the duet form and foreshadowed issues of identity, form and social commentary that would change the face of American dance. The Company emerged onto the international scene in 1983 with the world premiere of Intuitive Momentum, featuring legendary drummer Max Roach, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Since then, the Company has performed in over 200 cities in 30 countries on every major continent. It is recognized as one of the most innovative and powerful forces in the modern dance world.

The UTC Music Department is pleased to present the UTC Flute Ensemble and Southern Adventist University Trombone Choir, directed by Heather Small and Robert Pendergast, respectively.
The performance will take place at UTC’s Patton Chapel at 648 Oak St., Chattanooga; on November 15, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Included in this recital is an arrangement of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”, which has to this day been enduringly popular, frequently recorded and performed. It is a seven-movement suite in which each movement represents a planet of the solar system, as well as its corresponding astrological character. Also being performed are two movements of a new flute quartet by Eric Ewazan, titled “Harmony in Blue and Gold”, inspired by James McNeill Whistler’s Peacock Room. The piece utilizes impressionistic moods and artistic textures to portray the theme of peacocks and the blue and gold porcelain displayed there. Music also featured in this concert includes “Masques” by Anne McGinty and compositions by Susato, Philip Bliss, Gliere and the Beatles. The performance is presented free of charge and open to the general public. Additional information may be found at http://www.utc.edu/Academic/Music/Events.php
