UTC String Project
Details:
The String Project at UTC provides an opportunity for school-aged children to learn a stringed instrument at a reasonable cost. In the spring semester, students may join if they have had previous instruction. Students receive private and group instruction on their chosen instrument. Students in grades 3-12 may apply for admission to the program. If an orchestra exists at the student’s school, they must be enrolled in that group to participate in the String Project. UTC has a limited number of instruments available for rental. |

This is an in-depth review course for the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) examination. The CPS rating is the achievement of the internationally recognized standard of proficiency in the secretarial and administrative support professions. In today’s workplace, having the CPS credentials can be assurance of employability, pay increases, bonuses and opportunity for advancement. The CPS examination covers three main subject areas: • Office Administration • Office Systems and Technology • Management To receive CPS certification you must register and pay a fee to the International Association of Administrative Professionals. The exam is given the first Saturday in May and November. UTC is an authorized testing center for the CPS examination. Textbook information will be sent to you upon registration. |

Sewing 101: A Beginner's Sewing Class
Details:
Learn the basics of garment sewing. In this class, the students will learn about home sewing machines and how they work. We will learn about fabrics and sewing tools, and how and when to use them. This class will also cover how to lay out, alter, and cut a simple garment pattern, as well as how to piece together, sew, and finish a simple garment. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to sew, or simply need a refresher, then this class is for you! You will need to bring your sewing machine with you to each class meeting. |

Details:
ACT workshops cover general information about the tests as well as individual sections for the ACT in English, Math, Science, and Writing. Each student receives 5-6 hours of classroom instruction and a workbook that has an additional 10-15 hours of supplementary work. The Chattanooga Singers is a concert choir that performs a wide variety of music including major works. The Chattanooga Singers (MUS 0200) meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 until 1:30. The Chamber Singers (MUS 0220) is the main touring chorus in the music department. It is a smaller more select chorus that rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:00-12:50 and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:50-12:05. Auditions consist of singing “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” range check, ear-training and sight-reading exercises. Contact Dr. Ford at Kevin-Ford@utc.edu or 425-5243 to register for a five-minute audition spot.
